The U.S. EPA announced that the following communities will receive between $200,000 and $820,000 in Brownfield grant money for assessment and cleanup activities:
- Cuyahoga County
- Dayton
- Lorain County
- Reading,
- Sandusky
- Toledo
- Zanesville
Uses for Brownfield Grants Monies
Not only are Brownfield funds available from the U.S. EPA and the Ohio EPA to municipalities for the assessment and cleanup of Brownfield sites, but funding is available to communities for job training. A primary purpose of the job training program is to get unemployed residents of areas impacted by environmental issues into jobs involved with the assessment and cleanup of those same areas.
The Ohio EPA Brownfield Program also provides grants that can be used for research and technical assistance to facilitate brownfield site redevelopment, and for area-wide planning and development strategies where large areas are in need of redevelopment.
